A fun time was had by all at the recent “Make Learning Naturally Fun” workshop co-sponsored by Project Learning Tree (PLT) and the Flathead Community of Resource Educators (CORE). The workshop featured the new module from PLT entitled “Environmental Experiences for Early Childhood” which contains 11 new activity sets grouped into 3 categories. The 3 categories are: Exploring Nature with Five Senses; Experiencing Trees through the Seasons; and Meeting Neighborhood Trees. Activities in this guidebook are appropriate for preschool through 2nd grade.
The CORE group also brought many of the local educational “trunks” that are available for check-out to educators. Many of these trunks are lent free of charge, and contain lots of background information, props, activities and exercises to help make the lessons come alive. The trunks are the product of many different organizations.
Project Learning Tree is an award winning environmental education program that offers guidebooks for educators from preschool through the high school level. Local workshops are held frequently to make these materials available to educators. This workshop was free thanks to funding from the Plum Creek Foundation.
