Reduce Mosquitoes with Bat Houses
Our spring weather in Montana was characterized by a rapid snowmelt and moderate to severe flooding. Now, all that standing water seems to have left behind a particularly pesky problem – mosquitoes. If you’re looking for a solution to your buggy problem, but would prefer to avoid the DEET, there may be a natural remedy you haven’t considered yet.
Did you know a single adult bat can catch up to 600 mosquitoes in an hour? Bats are one of the most important consumers of night-flying insects and are key pollinators for our native plants and food crops. And despite common perception, bats are generally shy of humans, seeking to minimize their contact with us.
By providing roosting areas for bats you can help support and important Montana species while also helping to reduce mosquitoes around your home. Either build or buy a bat house then hang it in a sunny, warm location.
